What is Modern Batik?
The Modern Batik art style is a unique style developed by David Kibuuka and Henry Lutalo Lumu. The first batik style was introduced to Africa in the 60s from Indonesia. The two soon became mesmerized in the style and started to develop a unique style, using the original batik style as the base.
Unique Traits of Modern Batik
The Modern Batik embraces some new techniques such as “fragmentation”. This new technique added additional depth to the painting, making them become even more alive. This staple technique, along with the unique color scheme, can be identified as one of the most defining factors of the Modern Batik art style.
You can see the unique mood that the Modern Batik style art creates from the sample pictures shown here. These paintings were all created by David Kibuuka himself. The images have been taken from the Zimbe Collection website where the prints and cards from Kibuuka and other Modern Batik artists are available for sale.
